UCD History Department Hosts Colorado History Day

DENVER - Approximately 1,500 Colorado students will compete during the 30th Annual Colorado History Day competition on the Auraria Campus on May 1.

Colorado History Day, the state-level program affiliated with National History Day, is a year-long education program that engages students in grades six through twelve in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. The focus is diversity and this year’s theme is Innovation in History: Impact and Change. Students are encouraged to discover and interpret historical topics relating to the theme such as Telescope: Bringing the Stars into Focus; Plastics: The Gift that Won’t Stop Giving; and Laser Technology: Curing without Cutting, and then present their results through dramatic performances, imaginative exhibits, multimedia documentaries, interactive websites or research papers.

Colorado History Day participants must place in one of 10 regional contests to progress to the state competition hosted by the UC Denver College of Liberal Arts & Sciences History Department. From the approximately 1,500 Colorado History Day competitors, first and second-place winners move on to compete at National History Day.

Approximately 20,000 students from across the state participated in National History Day.
