DU Couples Clinic Offers New Program for Couples

DENVER – The University of Denver (DU) Couples Clinic offers a couples group program, where two or three or four couples participate in a group that share similar goals and concerns.
The group is a way couples can increase positive connections and intimacy in their relationships as well as learning skills to improve communication and conflict management.
“Couples will learn that they can decide to have a great marriage,” said Howard Markman (left), director of DU’s Center for Marital and Family Studies and head of the DU Couples Clinic. “I know of very few services in the country where couples can come together and learn. This would be a great Mother’s Day gift.”
The sessions are directed by two leaders, and couples have the benefit of input from the other couples. Group couples therapy is rarely offered and has many benefits, said Markman, author of Fighting For Your Marriage.
“There is a lot of social support in a couples group,” he added. “Couples can see that they are not alone and get input from other couples on what is working and not working in their relationships.”
The Clinic is looking for couples to participate starting April 26. The sessions run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will meet through the middle of June. Couples do not have to be married, but do have to be in a committed relationship. Fees are $10 a session per couple.
